Lu-Crest Pest Control will perform 3 treatments at approximately 10-11 Day  Intervals. Prep work MUST be done completely before treatment can be started. If you are unable to finish all these steps before the first scheduled visit contact this office. A successful treatment relies on thorough prep work. The following instructions are intended to cover most residential situations.

  • First on the list is to declutter where possible. Discard unnecessary bags, boxes, newspapers, clothing, Etc. Do not just place items in bags and move them to the garage or storage room, intending to bring them back later. Bedbugs can survive 6 months or longer in bags, and you will reinfest your residence.
  • Next you will need to seal all mattresses and box springs in bedbug covers. These special encasements have tight closing zippers that seal the bedbugs in. Buy the correct size for a snug fit so bedbugs cannot hide in excess folds of material. They vary widely in type and price and are available at Wal-Mart. If you select an encasement that rips during installation, seal the opening thoroughly with duct tape. Plan to leave them on for a year to ensure all bugs inside are dead.
  • Obtain 42 gallon, 3 mil thick, plastic contractor bags. These will be used to bag up items that cannot be heated in the dryer. Do not fill the bags more then half-full! Lu-Crest will seal the bags after gassing strips are placed in them. They will remain sealed until the final treatment. Lu-Crest will then unseal them and remove the gassing strips. The gas will dissipate within an hour or two and NO residual remains on the items; there is no need to wash the bagged items. Do NOT place bags on beds or furniture; These items need to be moved and tilted so Lu-Crest can treat them.
  • Sort the clothes out that you will need to use over the next 3 weeks until treatments are completed. If clothes are clean, heat in a dryer on high for 60 minutes loosely packed. Then place directly in tightly sealed bags. If clothes are soiled, heat on high for 60 mins loosely packed, then wash + dry normally. Place these clothes directly in your bags. NO clothing that has not been run through the proper heating steps listed above should be placed in your temporary bags to avoid re-infesting the entire bag with bugs.
  • Remove all comforters, blankets, sheets, pillows, and pillow cases from beds prior to each service and place in dryer on high heat for at least 60 minutes. If you choose not to heat the comforters and larger blankets place them in a 3 mil 42 gallon plastic bag and Lu-Crest will use a gassing strip to treat them. Linens may be returned to the beds after the treatment that evening.
  • Do NOT place sterilized bedding/clothes in small grocery/trash bags; these bags are not large enough to allow them to be tightly sealed, and they often rip, allowing bedbugs to re-enter.
  • Kitchen/Food- Seal food and place in cupboards. Do not place food, dishes, pots/pans in the contractor bags. Seal all medicine bottles and Do not place them in gassing bags. Kitchen floors and trim will be treated.
  • Completely empty all dressers and nightstand drawers and tops- these will be tilted to allow treatment.

The following is a partial list of items that should be bagged. This is not mean to be a complete list- households will vary as to their contents.

  1. Linens, books, DVDs, toys, cardboard boxed items, shoes.
  2. Pictures, mirrors on walls.
  3. Mail, papers, magazines, newspapers.
  4. Vacuum Cleaners / Shampoo machines.
  5. Small rugs.
  6. Items from coffee/end tables.
  7. Any loose items on floors.
  8. Empty luggage.
  9. Totes can be no more than half full. Small collectible/fragile items can be placed in totes and have bubble-pack in between layers. Lu-Crest will place a gassing strip in them and replace the lid.

Closets must be empty, including all hangers. Curtains should be heated for 60 minutes after each treatment.

All floors should be swept and mopped BEFORE the first treatment. Do not resume mopping until 2 weeks after the final treatment.

All fish tanks must have their air intakes disconnected and the tanks must be covered in plastic.

All persons and pets must vacate the property during the service and not return for at least two hours AFTER the treatment.

Most of the time it is not possible to determine how and when bedbugs were brought into the residence. A partial list of known sources of bed bug infestation includes: Thrift stores , garage sales, rent-to-own stores+trucks, U-Haul trucks, libraries, self-storage buildings, public transportation. Avoid these services where possible; inspect items thoroughly before bringing into your residence.

 Lu-Crest Pest Control - 419-938-8533

Lu-Crest Pest Control will be treating your residence for cockroaches. Normally there will be an initial treatment, followed by a second application after approximately 4 weeks. This 4 week time interval allows for hatch-out of baby roaches from egg capsules. Additionally at the time of the second visit Lu-Crest will be rotating chemicals and baits to aid in overcoming pesticide resistance. A constant minimum temperature of 70 degrees F must be maintained during the 4 weeks.

PEOPLE AND PETS- Must be out of residence before each treatment and not to return for several hours after each application is completed.

FLOORS- All floor areas will be treated, including under beds and bottoms of closets. Pick up toys, shoes, books, magazines, etc. off the floor areas. Move couches and chairs, and vacuum under them. Kitchen floors should be swept and mopped. If you are planning on steam cleaning your carpets soon, do it before Lu-Crest begins any treatment. Vacuum any heat and intake vents to be sure there is no food in them. Once dry (1-2 hours) floors can be vacuumed normally.

CUPBOARDS- Lu-Crest normally baits the interiors of both food and dish cupboards. To increase bait acceptance we require the cupboards to be wiped clean of any spilled food or grain dust. Tightly seal open containers and place open food bags or boxes in zip-lock baggies.

COUNTER TOP(S)- Thoroughly wipe down all surfaces (including crumbs under counter microwave oven) and clean all food scraps in the sink. Remove the toaster and seal in a bag. Remove sugar, salt, pepper, etc. and open bread products and place in the fridge. Also prep and wipe clean drawers under counters, including silverware trays.

SINK CABINETS- The main areas beneath kitchen and bath cabinets need to be emptied.

APPLIANCES- Both the stove and fridge need to be pulled out and the flooring beneath them cleaned before initial treatment. Wipe down the inside and outside of the fridge. Remove any food scraps or grease from the sides and top of the stove. Clean burner bowls and area beneath the stove-top if it can be raised. Also, the oven should be cleaned of any food scraps as roaches will feed on them when the oven is not in use.

GENERAL SANITATION- Trash bags in can should be sealed nightly so roaches cannot climb in and feed on scraps. Trash can should be free of scraps and cleaned. Pet food and water should be picked up nightly- roaches will breed near them due to easy access. Maintaining good sanitation is always the number one tool to control roaches. Clean spilled food quickly, and wash dirty dishes nightly. During the 4 week interval be sure to clean up any dead roaches or crumbs found on counters or cupboards. Sweep up any found on the floor. Live roaches will feed on the dead ones. Forcing roaches to wander farther from resting spots in search of food or water will cause a quicker reduction in population numbers as they come into contact with Lu-Crest treatment material.

NOTE: Allow up to 2 weeks after second treatment for full effect.

                                    Flea Treatment Instructions

These instructions are very important for a successful outcome. The best results, however are always obtained through proper prep work and customer compliance after the treatment. If you are unable to do complete prep-work, delay treatment until you have the time to do so. If you are unwilling to follow the post treatment instructions, you should only expect minimal results. We highly recommend pets to be treated for fleas before we come treat.

Pre-Treatment: We will be treating all floor areas, to do so you must have everything up off the floor. This includes toys, pet bedding, shoes, etc. Furniture can be moved so we can treat under it. Everything under the beds needs to be removed so we are able to treat under it.

Sweep, vacuum, and or mop all floors before we come to treat. If you plan on shampooing the carpets soon, do so before we come to treat. Once we treat you will not be able to use harsh chemicals for 4 weeks on floor when mopping as it will strip our chemical. Mopping with water and vinegar is OK.

All pets and people will need to be out of the residence while the treatment is performed and until the floors are completely dry. Drying times vary depending on humidity, temperature, and carpet texture. If you are unsure if the carpet is dry, place a tissue on the floor and tap it with your shoe. If the tissue draws dampness allow more time, open windows, and turn on ceiling fans. If we fogged your residence, ventilate all areas before bringing back in birds, fish, reptiles, etc, as these pets do not tolerate pesticides very well.

Post-Treatment: Only about 15% of the flea population in your residence are jumping/biting adults. A good portion of the 85% remaining are in cocoons. Our liquid or aerosol spray will not affect them. In order for them to hatch out and search for blood meal they need to be stimulated. This will happen with pressure and vibration from near by hosts (people and pets). They need to hatch out in order for our chemical to kill them. Fleas will die in 4-6 hours after we have treated the floor, but will continue to bite until they are dead.

Bed linen and pet bedding, if able should be put in the dryer on high for minimum of 30 mins every couple of days during the 4 weeks to kill any fleas or larvae that may be on there.

To stimulate the hatching stage and reduce total infestation period, vacuums and fans must be used. Vacuuming all floor areas must be done daily. Also vacuuming upholstered furniture and under cushions, especially where pets lay. Doing this will remove flea eggs, larvae, and unhatched pupal cases. Vacuum bags or canisters need to be emptied when half full. If using bags, place a small amount of corn starch or talc on the floor and sweep it up to keep the fleas from crawling out. If using a canister dump contents away from your residence. DO NOT dispose contents in toilet or kitchen trash can; adult fleas may escape.

Oscillating fans should be placed in the corners of as many rooms as possible. The air flow will rustle the carpet and also stimulate pupal emergence. Change the fan every 3-4 days at most. DO NOT rely on ceiling fans or pedestal fans, their airflow is insufficient. Fans are to be used to supplement vacuuming for 4 weeks, not to replace it.

IMPORTANT: Due to flea life cycle changes, you must allow 4 weeks for full effect. Many time flea activity increases a few days after treatment; this is normal and partially due to stimulation of pupal cases by our compressed air sprayers. During this 4 week waiting period, you should discourage visitors from coming to your residence, as they may take fleas home with them.

If you have any additional questions, please give us a call.
